Emergence, modeled from a sitter of Hopi and Southern California Native ancestry, reflects Indigenous understandings of emergence as an ongoing process of becoming, of growth achieved through struggle, responsibility, and moral development rather than arrival at a fixed state. “My interpretation is the eternal struggle of the human spirit to emerge to a higher plane — a state of consciousness marked by a deeper capacity for understanding and love.”
