CRYSTALLINE EMERGENCE
Carrara marble on Academy Granite base
4 feet 5 inches high
"The sculpture Crystalline Emergence has to do with the transformation of matter from the organic to the inorganic. This concept, whether in myth or in reality, has always been an intriguing one. In the Bible, Lot's wife was turned into a pillar of salt and, in mythology, any who looked upon the Medusa would be transformed into stone. In nature, we have only to look at petrified wood, pearls, and fossil fuels for examples.
With this sculpture, the mysterious elements of crystal emerge, inexplicably, from the interior of the shell form. The sculpture itself offers no solutions, no answers. Rather, it presents the enigma to the viewer's eye."
